It’s hard to know where to start with the Robinson’s outdoor spaces. The Robinson’s outdoor areas take residents on a special journey. For the podium garden, we embraced the UK festival feel. With artificial grass to avoid mud, we created distinct areas within the garden. There’s a John Lennon-inspired peace garden for moments of quiet reflection, with a circular seating area surrounded by dense foliage. There are swings for lighter hearted moments. There’s a dog park located next to a wooden playground for children, in recognition of the practicalities of family life. We’ve also included a versatile lawn area scattered with deckchairs, that’s ideal for everything from long, lazy picnics to movie screenings on balmy summer evenings.
And then, in keeping with The Robinson’s spirit, we included the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party Garden. This is a space that oozes adventure. The tables are tucked beneath a wooden framework with retractable roof, with imitation crystal chandeliers and festoon lights hanging from the rafters. Brightly coloured giant flowerpots deliver a twist of the unexpected, while behind ordinary-seeming, sleek wooden panels hides a bright pink kitchenette. Climbing plants are working their way up the wooden frame, creating an increasing sense of the entire spot being hidden away as they mature. With an oil drum BBQ thrown in for good measure, this is a space to socialise, eat, drink and adventure.
The path that winds through the podium garden brings all of these areas together into one exciting journey, creating a sense of integration and connectivity. For those who want to plan their onward adventures, we’ve included a camper van planter packed with flowers as the perfect resting spot while residents study the directional signpost that covers a range of quirky destinations.
And then there’s the large rooftop. We’ve installed a juice bar in the shape of an orange, a sun lounger – we went for the longest in London again – and plants dotted around in brightly painted oil drums. Everything has been designed to create a sense of interaction, right down to the slide to get down to the mini courtyard below, which opens into the residents’ lounge. After all, why walk downstairs when you can slide?
We included a few private gardens at The Robinson too, subdividing one of the smaller roof terraces with picket fences to create a limited number of secluded rooftop gardens.
The Robinson’s other shared rooftop also has its own distinctive character, while reflecting some of the festival feel from the podium garden. One of its most exciting quirks is the presence of three bespoke, custom built, work-from-home camper vans, complete with power and lighting. Sitting in their own, dedicated rooftop space, the camper vans are complemented by picnic tables and deckchairs, delivering a mini work-from-home community. For creative inspiration, there’s the wide open sky above and the stunning backdrop of the London skyline. Covid has blurred working and living like never before and this space caters to that new reality in a thoughtful, ultra-contemporary way. Residents can work, relax and have fun in this highly bespoke environment.
And finally, we delivered one more bespoke rooftop area – the spa caravan. Complete with its own hot tub, this is a place to chill out and forget your cares. Read, relax and gaze up into the sky or outward to London – this imaginative space is for residents to enjoy their ‘me time’ in entirely unexpected surroundings.
The Robinson’s outdoor space is quirky, surprising and utterly unapologetic in its sense of fun.
