At Kingsland Pre Prep, we’ve created an environment which gives young people a wonderful early years experience. We’ve let imagination flow, encouraging young people to become creative thinkers, makers and doers in response to the spaces around them. Quirky features, intense patterns, a life-size oak tree in the largest classroom… every room inspires curiosity, exploration and freedom of thought and expression.
Everywhere the colours are bold, bright and exciting, delivering a sense of wonderland that’s complemented by key-shaped doors, ruler cupboard handles and other unexpected twists in every room. Each of the four enormous classrooms has its own distinctive vide, with the oak tree in the largest harbouring books and creatures within its branches.
In the ballet studio, we provided theatre lighting to add an additional thrill to ballet and exercise classes.
Throughout the school, the furniture is bespoke, with imagination being poured into every piece. Even the bathrooms are an adventure, with ocean-inspired wavy top doors and balloon lighting.
We’ve used patterns to energise the young pupils’ senses, taking them beyond the physical space on a flight of fancy. It’s a magical land that children can’t wait to enter.
Of course, we didn’t leave out the teachers. The adults’ space features natural palm wallpaper, plush sofas and a bespoke high table and chairs.
In the ‘imaginarium’, on the top floor, we went full tech. 60-degree interactive projections and surround sound create some incredibly immersive experiences. Children can explore the jungle, chase falling snowflakes or hop on a surfboard and catch some waves.
And to balance out all that tech, we’ve created a garden that’s perfect for adventure. There’s a vertical green wall, Alice in Wonderland-style dinnerplate Dahlias and a giant bug hotel. For creative, messy play, there’s an irresistible mud kitchen. The whole design was about supporting little imaginations to flourish in the most wonderfully carefree way.
